A Tioga soldier missing in action in North Korea since late 1950s is scheduled to be buried in Dallas on Wednesday.

Army Pfc. Weldon A. Davis was part of the 25th Infantry Division that was engaged in fighting with units of the Chinese army north of the Ch’ongch’on River.

That division suffered many casualties and the Chinese captured many others, according to the Department of Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office.

In 1953, soldiers said that Davis had been taken to a prisoner of war camp known as Death Valley and that he died from malnutrition and pneumonia.

In 2005, a joint U.S. and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea team excavated a burial ground in North Korea, and the remains that were found were returned to the U.S. Davis’ remains were among those identified.
