Workers remove the red-striped awning on the former Love Shack restaurant east of the Square at the corner of Austin and Hickory streets Tuesday in preparation for the new Queenie’s Steakhouse.

For two and a half weeks, construction work has been seen at chef Tim Love’s former restaurant Love Shack at 115 E. Hickory St. in downtown Denton.

On Feb. 6, Love announced on his Twitter page that the new eatery would be called Queenie’s Steakhouse and it would be a tribute to his “amazing mother.”

Lucinda East with New York-based Baltz & Company, the public relations company representing Love, confirmed the name of the new restaurant but did not offer any details.

In an e-mail, East said that the restaurant is still under construction and no official opening date is available.

In late October 2012, Love announced he was permanently closing the Love Shack, a burger restaurant that had been open 18 months. The purpose, he said, was to redesign and renovate the space and introduce his new steakhouse.

The Love Shack opened in Denton in April 2011.

The 3,600-square-foot restaurant — which included indoor and outdoor sitting for 120 customers — played host to many Denton community events as well as popular music acts.
