UNT names Reid to two positions

The University of North Texas is almost ready to go public with its capital campaign.

The most recent step in that direction is naming Betheny L. Reid the senior associate vice president and capital campaign manager.

Reid comes from the Dallas County Community College District, where she was the associate vice chancellor of development and president of the district’s foundation.

“It sounds like they are building things, and I like being a part of building things,” Reid said.

She said she’s been surprised by the number of people in North Texas she talks to who have some tie to UNT.

“It shows the impact the university has had on the region,” she said.

A lot of moving into the public phase of the campaign is to start having conversations with individuals who have ties to UNT, Reid said.

Michael Monticino, vice president for advancement at UNT, said there are two parts to the capital campaign: increasing and enhancing support for students, and enhancing and extending UNT’s profile in the region.

“Betheny is going to be wonderful help for both of those,” he said, because of her background in higher education as well as marketing and communication.

Her experience and connections to the region will benefit the university, Monticino said.

Reid raised more than $80 million during her 14 years with the Dallas Community College District.

“I’m impressed with his [Monticino’s] vision for advancement,” Reid said.

The capital campaign is about connecting people, she said.

Monticino said part of making education affordable for students is increasing scholarship support and increasing support for programs.

This is a comprehensive campaign, he said, that supports students, programs and facilities.

“Every university is looking at revenue to support activity,” Monticino said.

UNT will announce more information about the public phase of its campaign during the Emerald Eagle Honors event April 15.
