A free conference for Latino parents will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon today at Calhoun Middle School, 709 W. Congress St.

The Building Bridges to Success conference will offer  24 sessions dealing with education and other topics of interest at each school level — elementary, middle, high school and college.

“The conference is really to provide Spanish-speaking families, that often times do not know how to navigate the school system, with valuable information,” said Patrick J. Vasquez, director of the outreach office at the University of North Texas.

Some of the topics will include school counseling, how to join a PTA and an overview of ReadyRosie, an online school readiness curriculum for pre-kindergarten students.

Attendees also will be able to enjoy a father-son soccer match at the school.

Representatives from UNT, Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College will also provide presentations.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.
