The University of North Texas Board of Regents Thursday named Ronald T. Brown the sole finalist for the presidency of the Dallas campus.

The board met in a special called meeting, via conference call, to name the finalist.

Under Texas law, the board must name a finalist at least 21 days before making an appointment.

UNT Dallas President John Ellis Price will step down when his contract ends in August.

Price, the founding president of the Dallas campus, announced in July that he would be stepping down. He has served as president since August 2010. And prior to becoming president, Price served as campus CEO since 2001.

Brown is currently the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich.

He has served as dean of the College of Health Professions and Social Work and interim dean of the school of dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia.
