As people spring forward, the Denton Fire Department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are encouraging everyone to check their smoke detectors.
Smoke alarms significantly increase the chances of surviving a deadly home fire and now is a great reminder to make sure you have a working smoke alarm in your home, said a news release from Denton Fire Department.
Following are some tips:
* Test and clean your smoke alarms on the first of every month.
* Replace the batteries at least once a year.
* Place smoke alarms on every level of your residence and in every bedroom.
* Check the expiration date on the smoke alarm.
