Multiple Denton County agencies responded to a mobile home fire Thursday evening in the 4000 block of Cactus Drive.

The home was fully engulfed when agencies started to receive calls around 6:30 p.m., according to officials.

The mobile home was a total loss, authorities said.

“It’s my understanding that the family who lived there wasn’t home [at the time of the fire],” said Sandi Brackeen, spokeswoman for the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office worked traffic because roads were shut down for a while as agencies worked to extinguish the fire. Flower Mound, Denton and Lewisville fire departments also worked the scene, according to officials.

Other reports

U.S. Highway 380 and Bonnie Brae Street — An accident Thursday afternoon left at least one person hospitalized, according to Denton police.

Officer Ryan Grelle, spokesman for the department, said a motorcycle was headed southbound on Bonnie Brae when a pickup was exiting a restaurant parking lot.

The driver told police he looked both ways and saw no vehicles approaching, so he pulled out. Once the driver had pulled partway onto the road, he observed a motorcycle to his left, and the motorcycle struck the pickup, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Medical Center of Plano with unknown injuries, according to officials. The traffic unit is still investigating the incident, Grelle said.

700 block of Newton Street — A woman called police Thursday evening to report that her 12-year-old daughter was injured at school.

The girl was hit in the face with a ball thrown by her physical education teacher, according to the report. She told officers her teacher was angry because some children were not paying attention in class.

The teacher allegedly threw a ball toward the group of students, striking the 12-year-old below her eye. Police observed swelling and slight discoloration around the girl’s eye.
