Several events are being planned in Denton to commemorate the Cinco de Mayo holiday next weekend.
The Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The event includes a parade and the La Reina Contest at Quakertown Park, 321 E. McKinney St. The parade is free and open to the public.
The parade will start at the Texas Woman’s University parking lot, corner of Locust and Oakland streets, and proceed down Elm St. to the Courthouse on the Square, around the Quarkertown Park, and end at the Civic Center parking lot.
During the day festivities include entertainment from Latino bands and local school performances.

Also in conjunction with city festivities, the 2nd Annual 5K run and 1-mile walk will take place starting at 8 a.m. at North Lakes Park, 2001 W. Windsor Drive. Interested participants need to register by visiting http://www.dentoncinco.org/documents/5kregistration_form.pdf .
