The 17th annual Denton County Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Denton County Courthouse, located at 1450 E. McKinney St.
Sheriff Will Travis will read the names and stories of seven officers killed in the line of duty in Denton County from 1897-1986, Sandi Brackeen, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said in a release Tuesday.
The service, she said, will commemorate National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which coincides with National Police Week, running May 12-18.
“As America recalls this time of memorial once a year, we as law enforcement officers remember daily the sacrifices made by our fallen brethren,” said Travis in a prepared statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of our fallen law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price in keeping our communities secure and our families safe.”
The event is free and open to the public.
