The Denton County fire marshal is investigating a two-alarm fire after it burned a two-story home to the ground in the 10000 block of Hilltop Road on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Jody Gonzalez, chief fire marshal for the county, said the more than 6,000-square-foot home was a “total loss” and still smoldering at 8 a.m.

The owner of the home, a man estimated to be in his 50s, called 911 about the fire at 3:29 a.m. Wednesday and was the only person living at the home at the time, Gonzalez said.

The home, he said, had been under some renovations recently and is valued at $750,000, according to county records.

Investigators are looking at the garage as the starting point, but everything is still under investigation at this time.

Argyle, Ponder, Denton, Justin, Double Oak and Flower Mound fire departments responded to the “fully involved” early-morning fire. There were no reported injuries.
