Blotter: Report: Police pursue man attempting to evade arrest

Denton police officers pursued a man who attempted to evade arrest and found him hiding in shrubbery at a church on Saturday evening near the corner of Congress and Elm streets, according to a police report.

Officers were dispatched to the location in response to a call about a person with a gun.

The caller told police that a man with a black 9 mm pistol got out of a vehicle and threatened another person, according to the report.

The caller gave officers a description, and officers found the suspect driving into the parking lot of an apartment complex. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he ran, according to the report.

Officers chased the suspect, who tried to hide in shrubbery near the church. The suspect was detained and he admitted to the incident and having a Taser and a BB gun, according to the report.

His vehicle was searched and no Taser was located, but a small black BB gun was found.

The suspect also admitted that he was hiding from the police because he did not want to be arrested.

The man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and evading detention, according to the report.

300 block of West University Drive — Employees of a restaurant told police that they found a homeless man sleeping in their restaurant early Saturday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the location and made contact with the man, who had multiple warrants for his arrest, according to a police report.

The man was arrested, and during a search of the suspect’s backpack, an officer discovered a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an illegal knife, according to the report.

The man was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying an illegal weapon.

900 block of Fort Worth Drive — A motorist was injured in a single-vehicle accident when he drove into the side of an overpass early Saturday morning, according to a police report. The motorist was bleeding but refused medical treatment.

According to the police report, the man was belligerent and refused all field sobriety tests.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and for driving with an invalid license, according to the report.
