Karla Morton, 2010 Texas Poet Laureate and Denton native, will be interviewed on WFAA’s Good Morning Texas program tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Some of the poet’s most acclaimed work is inspired by her city. In 2010, the City of Denton’s Public Art Committee commissioned her work Passion, Art, Community: Denton, Texas in Word and Image, which comprised 25 poems narrating the history of Denton.
The piece was selected as the 2013 Next Generation Indie Book Award Finalist in a whopping four categories- historical non-fiction, poetry, regional non-fiction and best overall design. Accompanying her poems are works of art, inspired by her verse, that are currently up for public view in various buildings across Denton.
On her appearance tomorrow, Morton will promote her ninth work,Hometown, Texas, a poetry anthology, which also features high-school students’ art and poetry from 24 cities around the state including Denton. Morton, a cancer survivor, is also set to discuss her piece, Redefining Beauty, a poetic journey through diagnosis and treatment.
