Blotter: Fire destroys mobile home, displaces two people

Comments () A Text Size

A two-bedroom mobile home burned down Wednesday morning in the 11000 block of Olen Drive in Justin.

Jody Gonzalez, county fire marshal, said the home owner called 911 about a spreading fire at 12:21 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The owner of the home attempted to put out the fire himself and while attempting to do so, he suffered burns to his feet and lower legs.

“He was transported for treatment to an area hospital and released,” Gonzalez said.

Officials working the blaze said the man’s son also was inside the home at the time and did not suffer any injuries.

The fire, Gonzalez said, started on their back porch and quickly moved to the kitchen and living room areas.

The cause is undetermined at this time.

Gonzalez said the home was destroyed and Red Cross is assisting the father and son temporarily.

Other reports

100 block of Gable Court — A 28-year-old man alleged he was robbed by three men shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the victim was in his backyard smoking a cigarette when he heard voices coming from the drainage ditch behind his fence. The victim, police said, then went through his house, out the front door and began walking around to the back to see if the people had left.

Shane Kizer, spokesman for the Denton Police Department, said as the victim approached the back fence, someone came up behind him and asked, “Hey man, you got a cigarette?” The victim was then hit on the right side of his head with a hard object and fell to the ground. Police said he was kicked by the three men while they removed his wallet, taking his debit card and cash inside.

The suspects fled on foot, police said, and officers could not locate them.

The victim refused medical treatment.
