Woman identified in county death

A woman found dead Friday night in northwest Denton County was identified Tuesday afternoon after a long search to notify next of kin, officials said.

Troy Taylor, a chief death investigator for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, said his office was able to contact a cousin in California who said the body found in the 11000 block of Pruett Road was that of 68-year-old Kathleen Patricia Sandlin.

Taylor said her death was determined to be a result of unspecified natural causes.

Sheriff’s officials said they responded to a 911 call after a neighbor discovered Sandlin dead in her home shortly before 9 p.m. Friday.

The woman is believed to have been dead for at least two weeks before she was discovered. The neighbor who found her body, officials said, last saw her about two weeks ago.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sandi Brackeen said two dogs also were discovered dead inside the home. Several other animals, she said, were taken into custody and their condition was not available.
