Corinth police catch suspected car burglars and seek owners of unclaimed property believed taken from area vehicles

Two suspected car burglars were caught Saturday morning while they were shooting off fireworks, Corinth Police Lt. Jimmie Gregg said.

Marcel Baptiste, a 19-year-old resident of Wylie, was arrested and charged with four counts of burglary of vehicle, according to police records. Officials said a juvenile male was also taken into custody Saturday morning.

Gregg said a Hickory Creek officer was drawn to a vehicle around 6 a.m. Saturday, when the officer believed gunshots were coming from a vehicle located in the 1000 block of Interstate Highway 35E in Lewisville.

During a felony traffic stop, responding officers discovered several items inside the car with names on them that didn’t belong to the suspects.

Gregg said the officers were able to locate five property owners and quickly discovered their vehicles were broken into during the night. Police later learned the sounds of gunshots heard were actually fireworks thrown from the vehicle.

Gregg said the department still has unclaimed property from the burglaries. If you believe you were a victim of a vehicle burglary Friday night or early Saturday morning, contact the Corinth Police Department at 940-498-2017.
