Virtual desktops bought in 2010 no longer in service

The University of North Texas at Dallas spent $93,300 in 2010 to migrate from personal computers to PanoLogic virtual desktops, but the desktops were abandoned more than a year ago.

Michael White, manager for UNT Dallas’ information technology and shared services, said he joined the university in the summer of 2012 and the virtual desktops were no longer in use. The decisions to purchase the equipment, then remove it, were made before White took the position.

According to an order form, the university purchased 300 devices in June 2010, maintenance and support for the devices and 100 wall mounts.

After the purchases, Brian Walker of UNT Dallas was featured in a video testimonial for PanoLogic, and in a case study published by the company, he said he planned to add more at the university.
