The holidays are coming early to Denton.

The Downtown Denton Holiday Open House is kicking off with a special preview tonight — a day earlier than usual — and continuing Saturday and Sunday with shopping, dining and other activities on the historic downtown Square.

Also new to this year’s events are photo opportunities with Santa (bring your own camera) and a winter coat drive to help local families in need, according to Christine Gossett, event coordinator for the Denton Main Street Association, which hosts the open house.

Today’s event, from 5 to 10 p.m., will offer a “sneak peak” of activities with more than a dozen shops and restaurants opening their doors to participate.

The activities will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Santa will be on hand from 2 to 5 p.m. each day at the courtyard on Elm Street next to the Sherman Building, 101 N. Elm St. Winter coats can be dropped off there.

More than 50 stores and restaurants will be participating on Saturday and Sunday for those who want to shop and dine.

Many of the businesses will be offering specials, refreshments and door prize drawings.
