Commissioners OK fire, library items on brief agenda

Denton County commissioners Tuesday approved two agreements with the Argyle Volunteer Fire District and the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department to ensure emergency coverage within the county’s unincorporated areas.

The agreements are approved each year and include ambulance service from the Argyle Fire District and fire services from both the Argyle district and the Ponder department.

For ambulance services, the county will pay Argyle $36,122, according to the contract agreement.

And for fire services, the county estimates that it will pay the Argyle Fire District about $68,875, based on estimated service calls. The county estimates it will pay the Ponder department more than $142,000 on fire calls, according to the agreement.

In other business, commissioners voted to extend an interlocal agreement for library services between the county and the Justin Community Library.

Under the agreement, the Justin library will provide services for residents of unincorporated areas at no cost.

The Commissioners Court made swift work of its short agenda, adjourning after only about 7 minutes.

“Short and sweet,” County Judge Mary Horn said. “That’s almost a record, huh?”
