A 71-year-old Argyle man has been identified as the person found in a burning garage apartment Tuesday morning, officials said.

James Frederic Rounsaville tried to escape the morning fire in the 6100 block of FM1830, according to Denton County Fire Marshal Jody Gonzalez.

Rounsaville’s body appeared to be located by the stairs of the two-story garage apartment with shoes and gloves on, officials said.

His cause of death has yet to be determined, according to Troy Taylor, chief death investigator for the county.

Gonzalez said the fire appeared to have started in the garage apartment, and was largely contained to that structure.

The main home located next to the garage sustained some smoke and fire damage, causing an estimated $50,000 in damages.

As of Friday afternoon, the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Gonzalez said.
