Lewisville police have charged a 20-year-old Lewisville man in connection with the Wednesday afternoon three-vehicle collision.
Osiel Frias-Roberto has been charged with two counts of intoxication assault after he ran a red light at the intersection of State Highway 121 Business and Railroad Street at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the crash caused a 46-year-old woman driving a Durham School Services school bus to veer into a Honda that was waiting at the stoplight. She was transported by air ambulance to Medical Center of Plano and remains in critical condition. The woman was the only person on the bus.
According to a statement on the Lewisville Independent School District's facebook page, the bus driver was making her way back to the bus barn after she dropped off children before the crash occurred.
No one in the Honda was injured.
The passenger of the GMC Envoy that Frias-Roberto was driving remains in critical condition at Medical Center of Plano.
Frias-Roberto is being treated for minor injuries at Medical Center of Lewisville where he is awaiting arraignment, police said.
During the crash investigation, officers discovered open alcohol containers that led police to develop probable cause that he could have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to a news release issued by the department.
Intoxication assault is a third degree felony.
