A Denton man died after he was struck by a vehicle while working Wednesday afternoon in Fort Worth.

Ruben Pugo-Garcia, 32, was killed while performing an inspection at a manhole in the 14000 block of John Day Road, Fort Worth police said.

Fort Worth police Sgt. Kelly Peel said officers were called out to a major accident at 1:36 p.m. and found Pugo-Garcia dead in the roadway.

Officials said a man driving a gold Ford Thunderbird was traveling northbound on John Day Road when his vehicle struck Pugo-Garcia. The Thunderbird also hit the truck Pugo-Garcia was using on the job, according to a statement released by Fort Worth police.

Police said there were no cones or warning devices in the immediate area to warn motorists that someone was at work. The driver of the Thunderbird stopped after the accident occurred, police said.

Pugo-Garcia died of injuries he sustained when struck by the vehicle at 1:25 p.m., according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Peel said the accident is still under investigation.
