Squirrel causes power outage

A squirrel made the wrong move inside a transformer Sunday morning, triggering a power outage in eastern Denton.

For the majority of the 1,131 customers affected, power was out for only a moment, according to Brian Daskam, spokesman for Denton Municipal Electric.

“They just saw a blink,” Daskam said.

But for about 43 other customers, primarily along Bluebird Circle and Oriole and Hummingbird lanes, the outage lasted about an hour as crews repaired the feeder line, Daskam said.

Despite strong winds overnight — gusts hit 46 mph at Denton Enterprise Airport as a cold front moved through between 3 and 4 a.m. — neither DME nor CoServ reported any power outages due to weather Monday morning.
