Major thoroughfare in Corinth could be shut down
as late as 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., officials say

Repairs to the gas leak that has shut down FM2181 in Corinth could go on into the night, according to Corinth police officials.
Greg Wilkerson, assistant chief of the Corinth Police Department, said the most recent info the department received from TxDOT estimated an eight-hour repair time.
“They are still working on crimping the lines," he said. " By our estimation, it could go into the dark hou...rs as late as 9 p.m. or 10 p.m.”
The leak started around 11:30 a.m. when contractors for TxDOT doing some excavation work struck a 20-inch gas main that had been rerouted. Wilkerson said the workers were digging in the correct area but the line was in an area that was not marked.
At this time east and west bound lanes are completely shut down. West bound traffic is being diverted through the Bank of America parking lot and east bound traffic is being turned on to Hickory Creek Boulevard into Albertsons so motorists can go north or south, Wilkerson said.
“Due to the fact we have (traffic) going through parking lot, we’re asking riders to seek alternate routes as it is heavily congested at this time.”
