Two restaurants and a retail store are set to open this year at Golden Triangle Mall, the first of several announcements expected in 2014.
Corner Bakery Cafe and Pollo Tropical will build freestanding locations at the mall, with Corner Bakery Cafe opening in late fall or winter, and Pollo Tropical to open in August. Action sports clothing and accessory retailer Zumiez will join the mall in the summer with a location near the new food court.
“We’re excited to have all three of these come in, and they are all new concepts to Denton,” said Matt Ludemann, mall manager.
The Zumiez location will be 2,659 square feet of space adjacent to Aeropostale and across from Buckle, Body Central and Charlotte Russe — all new stores for the mall that are popular retailers with teenagers and young adults.
The store has clothing, footwear, accessories and gear for skating and snow activities, featuring brands such as Adidas, Nike and Vans. Currently, the company has more than 400 locations throughout the U.S.
Pollo Tropical is a chain restaurant popular in Florida and Puerto Rico, and the Denton location will be its second venture into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to a press release. The restaurant offers Caribbean-inspired grilled chicken and pulled pork with sides such as plantains. The location will be near the Chase bank, and the 4,000-square-foot building will be all new construction.
“Pollo Tropical is new to DFW, so we’re excited that we can bring new and unique things to the market at Golden Triangle,” Ludemann said.
The Corner Bakery Cafe will also be a freestanding building near the mall, with 3,600 square feet of space at the northeast quadrant of Interstate 35E and Loop 288. Construction will start this spring, and will be completed in the fourth quarter of the year.
While Corner Bakery Cafe is not new to the area, it will be the restaurant’s first location in Denton. It specializes in sandwiches, salads and baked goods that follow a seasonal menu.
“The goal was always to add full-service, sit-down restaurants as part of the comprehensive plan for the shopping center,” Ludemann said. “It drives traffic to the center for them to dine and shop.”
The announcements are part of the mall’s ongoing redevelopment, which brought new exterior and interior features such as a new play center and food court, as well as new businesses.
More announcements of new tenants are expected throughout the year as well, Ludemann said.
