The awning covering the gas pumps at the 7-Eleven store at the corner of University Drive and Malone Street in Denton is shown on its side after its support poles were snapped by strong, straight-line winds Sunday.

High winds around noon Sunday knocked down an awning that covers the gas pumps at the 7-Eleven store at the corner of University Drive and Malone Street in Denton.

Strong, straight-line winds snapped the support poles of the awning that covered the gas pumps.

"I heard a bang, then a boom," said Sushma Patel, who was working the cash register at the convenience store she owns.
