Slices of cake from Davis Purity Bakery disappear quickly as hungry food fans crowd into the concourse at the University of North Texas Coliseum to sample the best from local restaurants at the 25th annual Taste of North Texas on Thursday in Denton.

The 25th annual Taste of North Texas, benefiting the Denton Kiwanis Club Children’s Clinic and University of North Texas athletics, was held Thursday at the UNT Coliseum in Denton. The following are the winners for the 2014 Taste of North Texas:


People’s Choice: El Guapo’s

Kids Choice: Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Soda Fountain

Most Unique Booth: Mellow Mushroom


Best Beef: Texas Roadhouse

Best Chicken: Horny Toad Café and Bar

Best Seafood: Frilly’s Seafood Bayou Kitchen

Best Comfort Food: Cartwright’s Ranch House

Best Sandwich: Smiling Moose Deli

Best Italian: Palio’s Pizza Cafe

Best BBQ: Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q

Best Tex-Mex: La Milpa Mexican Restaurant

Most Unique Entreé: Texas Woman’s University


Best Finger Food: The Candy Store

Best Appetizer: IHOP

Most Unique Appetizer: Kolache Haven


Best Dessert: Candy Haven

Best Pastry: Davis Purity Bakery

Most Decadent Dessert: NV Cupcakes


Best Alcoholic Beverage: Oak Street Drafthouse and Cocktail Parlor
