DCTA meetings aim to inform public

Officials from the Denton County Transportation Authority plan to host a series of meetings to give the public an update on agency policies, programs and potential changes that could be made.

The agency will also present its service plan overview and information regarding the agency’s Title VI Program, information regarding the Connect RSVP policy and current job and procurement opportunities available within the agency.

The first of the five meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. April 21 in Lewisville.

“We’re providing information to the public about how the agency is run, where we are now with our service plan and what is our goal and how we can get there,” said Kristina Brevard, vice president of marketing and communications.

She said officials will also be talking about the budget and the decision-making process, including collecting feedback on a new Connect RSVP policy. Connect RSVP is the service offered by the agency in Lewisville and Highland Village.

“It’s basically to help us address no-shows,” she said. “It’s a curb-to-curb service and people have to schedule a trip. ... We’re having a problem with people no-showing.”

With the proposed change, a passenger must cancel at least two hours in advance of the scheduled trip.

A no-show occurs when a customer fails to cancel before that time or does not board within two minutes of a vehicle arriving.

Brevard said customers with three no-shows within a 60-day period will be suspended from making reservations for 90 days.

In addition, to address another issue, Brevard said DCTA drivers will not be allowed to make changes to schedule times or destinations without authorization from the schedule office.

“They can’t take on-board requests to change the schedule or destination,” she said.

Brevard said there will also be an opportunity for people to learn how to do business with DCTA and employment opportunities the agency has.
