Newton Rayzor Elementary School was placed on temporary lockdown Tuesday afternoon while police detained a man for questioning on the school property.
Mario Zavala, a district spokesman, said the school was placed on lockdown around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after school officials were alerted by Denton police that they were apprehending someone on school property at 1400 Malone St.
“Due to several ongoing investigations, we were looking for a suspect and located him in the 1400 block of Malone,” said Officer Ryan Grelle, Denton police spokesman.
Grelle said the man was brought in for questioning only. He did not release additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
“The lockdown occurred for roughly 7-8 minutes around 2:30 p.m., and at no time were any of our students or staff in danger,” Zavala said. “ Being that it happened so late in the school day, we promptly notified parents of the lockdown through our phone messaging system after dismissal.”
The lockdown did not delay school dismissal Tuesday, Zavala said.
