Denton County's networks and website were about 98 percent restored at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to Kevin Carr, the county's technology director.
The system went down in the early morning hours on Wednesday, choking off email service and shutting off access to the website and other servers. It remained down through the day Wednesday into Thursday morning.
The systems used by the jail, courts and public safety officers were not affected, Carr said.
A software patch helped get the system back up, including delivery of emails that had remained stored until the network could be relaunched, Carr said.
Both members of the county’s IT department and manufacturer’s representatives were working to figure out what corrupted both the data and the backup, which increased the amount of time needed to restore the system from secondary backup, he said.
“We're not sure what the root cause is yet,” Carr said.
Carr said Wednesday that the problem involved the synchronizing of data between two data centers.
