The Argyle Community Civic League is seeking new members and asking for donations to help with its back-to-school program for children in need.
The nonprofit organization raises funds for children with financial needs living in the Argyle area. The ACCL supplies the children with back-to-school clothes, shoes, backpacks and school supplies before the beginning of school and with clothes and toys at Christmas through the Angel Tree program. This year the ACCL also wants to provide Thanksgiving meals to the families of the children.
Currently, the ACCL is in partnership with Cross Timbers Community Church in Argyle, along with the Argyle High School UNICEF to help collect donations for the back-to-school program.
The ACCL is led by five board members, including Sherry Cargile, president and Angel Tree chairwoman; Lorraine Arnold, treasurer; Shannon Blakeley, vice president membership; Pamela Arrington, vice president communications; and Tina Gladys, vice president volunteer services. The organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop in Argyle.
To raise funds, the ACCL is planning a “Denim and Diamonds” event in November, the annual Angel Tree Dinner with a table decorating contest in December, and the Mother-Daughter Tea in early spring.
To become an active ACCL member, the annual fee is $25. The member is to give 25 hours of volunteer service — with 10 of those hours to the ACCL each year — attend monthly meetings and participate in the fundraising activities or make a donation for each one missed. To be a support member, the annual fee is $50. The member is to attend as many meetings as possible, stay current with ACCL events and participate in at least one fundraiser or donate $25. Those interested in joining the ACCL can contact Shannon Blakeley at email@example.com.
For donations or for more information, contact Sherry Cargile at 940-597-6026 or mail donations to: Argyle CCL, PO Box 323, Argyle TX 76226
