Ticket sales are underway for the annual United Way of Denton County kickoff luncheon this week.

The luncheon will be held Friday at the University of North Texas Gateway Center at 11:30 a.m. and tickets cost $35 per person. Jackie Davis, president of Persevere UNTil Success Happens (PUSH), will be the featured guest speaker.

PUSH is a UNT student organization created to raise awareness in the public and university communities about youth in the welfare system and to provide support, resources and fellowship to students who were in foster care.

Teddy Yan, marketing and outreach coordinator for United Way, said in addition to hearing a great keynote speaker, the event will provide an opportunity for members of the community to see what the nonprofit organization is all about.

“This is an event to not only learn about what we are doing, but where you can sit down and have good conversation with a lot of people who really care about helping lives in Denton County,” Yan said.

“I plan on inviting a few of my friends to come and see why I am so passionate about where I work.”

Last year, roughly 10,000 donors contributed to the organization raising $2,246,883 through campaigns around the county.

More than 20 companies are slated to begin pacer campaigns soon after the luncheon, he said, and more workplaces will start fundraising efforts throughout the coming months.
