A 35-year-old man’s body was identified by officials Wednesday after his apparent drowning earlier in the week at Lewisville Lake, Denton County officials said.
Jose Rodriquez Ochoa was a native of Honduras and was currently residing in Lewisville before he disappeared after telling friends he was going for a swim at Little Elm Park on Sunday, Troy Taylor, chief death investigator for the county, said. His body was recovered at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Little Elm Deputy Police Chief Rodney Harrison said the department began its search alongside the Lewisville Fire Department, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens and the Department of Public Safety shortly after receiving the report Sunday.
Denton County Emergency Services helped coordinate the search and provided one of its mobile command centers for Little Elm officials to use during the area search.
The beach was recently expanded to over twice its size and opened for swimmers over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. There are no lifeguards at the beach, although the swim area is enclosed by a floating barrier and is relatively shallow.
Officials said the drowning is the fifth reported at the lake this year.
