Northbound traffic on Interstate 35E has new lanes to travel as the old bridge, right, is closed Friday in Denton.

Interstate 35E’s northbound main lanes at U.S. Highway 77 have been shifted to the west onto temporary pavement to accommodate the long-term closure of the bridge over the southbound entrance ramp to I-35E.

The shift, which began Thursday, will remain in place for about 12 months.

Access to northbound Dallas Drive (U.S. 77), the Teasley Lane exit and businesses in the area will be maintained.

In addition, the northbound and southbound I-35E entrance and exit ramps at Mayhill Road and Loop 288 in Denton will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Monday. Crews will alternate by closing the Mayhill entrance and exit ramps one night and the Loop 288 entrance and exit ramps the next night.

Crews will perform work on the shoulders, restripe the roadway and set concrete traffic barriers for the upcoming traffic shift on the interstate.

Detours will be:

Mayhill Road

Northbound motorists wishing to access Mayhill will need to use the Post Oak Drive exit and continue north on the frontage road to Mayhill.

To get onto I-35E, southbound motorists will continue south on the frontage road and enter the roadway south of Post Oak.

Loop 288

Northbound motorists heading to Loop 288 will exit at Mayhill and continue north on the frontage road to Loop 288.

To get onto I-35E, southbound motorists will continue south on the frontage road and enter the roadway just south of Mayhill.

These closures are needed for work related to the 35Express project, an expansion of I-35E and Interstate 35 between U.S. Highway 380 in Denton County and Interstate 635 in Dallas County.

All closures are subject to weather conditions and may be postponed.
