For the next two days, the University of North Texas System’s Board of Regents will meet and consider adopting budgets for the upcoming fiscal year and evaluate its contract with Chancellor Lee Jackson.
During today’s meeting, which tackles the bulk of action items, Commissioner of Higher Education Raymond Paredes will speak to the board. The board will also tackle more financial items, like amending budgets for the current fiscal year and hearing updates on the financial overhaul. Friday’s meeting is expected to last from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all listed agenda items will be in executive session.
On the list are discussions about the employment agreements with Jackson and Chief Internal Auditor Michelle Finley.
The board will meet in Room 712 of the UNT System office at 1901 Main St. in Dallas.
Walker to keynote event
Heisman Trophy winner, former professional football player and mixed martial arts fighter Herschel Walker will be the keynote speaker for the Denton school district’s Freshman First Day events Friday.
Walker is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. at Denton High School, 11:30 a.m. at Ryan High and 1 p.m. at Guyer High. The appearances are sponsored by University Behavioral Health of Denton, according to the district.
Freshman First Day is held annually prior to the official start of a new school year.
For one day, incoming freshmen get Denton’s high schools to themselves to become familiar with the campuses, classes and school clubs, organizations and programs, according to the district.
