Denton's Bayless-Selby House Museum will offer a program exploring the ways Valentine's Day may have been celebrated in the past.
The program, set for 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, will also provide information about how local merchants captured the imagination of all the romance, said Robyn Lorraine Lee, manager of museums in the Historical Park of Denton County.
"The program will show all kinds of designs for those cards that had to be bought or made, and tell about the oh-so-many different designs available," Lee said in an e-mail. "You will see cards with lace designs, and cutouts, pin pricks and overlays. And there are stories to tell about the colors of all those flowers on the cards."
Previous museum programs, Lee said, told a little about the language of flowers and the Victorians' love for codes, and Saturday's program will help decipher some of those messages.
The program is part of the Victorian Home Series, and admission costs $5. Seating is limited, and reservations are requested by calling 940-349-2865.
The museum is at 317 W. Mulberry St. For more information, visit www.dentoncounty.com/bsh .
