A birthday party ended with a bang Saturday morning after multiple gunshots were fired as people were leaving, according to police. Denton police responded to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Inman Street after several 911 calls came in around 2 a.m.

“We had several reports of people hearing gunshots,” said Officer Shane Kizer. “Only one person was injured and that person was taken to Denton Regional [Medical Center] to treat an injured foot.”

At least two weapons were used, a 9mm and a .40 caliber, with an estimated 25 shell casings found on the ground.

Six cars had been shot at, as well as a back patio door, but no one was believed to be in the apartment at the time the door was shot, said police.

No suspects have been detained and the investigation is ongoing.
