Blotter: Woman reports she was assaulted by husband

A woman told police Friday morning that her husband allegedly assaulted her when she tried to wake him up, according to a police report.

When officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 2600 block of Mayhill Road shortly after 7 a.m., the 22-year-old woman told them that her husband had been drinking all night and became angry when she tried to wake him up. The wife alleged her husband put his hands over her mouth and pushed her to the ground.

The 24-year-old husband was charged with assault family/house member impeding breath/circulation and brought to jail, police said.

2600 block of West University Drive — Police took a 20-year-old man into custody after he allegedly took items from an area department store. Officers responding to the theft report found the suspect, who had no valid identification, and the man was charged with theft under $50 and brought to the city jail, according to a police report.

2200 block of Southridge Drive — An elderly woman told police she was a victim of forgery recently. Police said the woman, 76, told an officer Friday afternoon that she had written a check for $20 to someone and later discovered that the check had allegedly been cashed for $245.56.

University of North Texas police made nine arrests, responded to three minor crashes, one attempted theft, one disturbance call, three thefts under $500, one theft under $50, one graffiti call, one assault/family violence call, one disorderly conduct call for urinating in public and one purchase/furnish alcohol to minor report and issued two criminal trespass warnings, one citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and one citation for possession of alcohol by minor/littering.
