Blotter: Pistol-whipping robber steals $1,000, injures victim

A gun-wielding robber struck a Denton man with a handgun several times Friday before making away with the victim's backpack containing $1,000, according to a Denton police report. 

The male suspect is still at large, police say. 

First responders were dispatched to the 600 block of Windfields Street about 8:45 p.m. Friday, and  medics transported the victim, who had moderate injuries, to a nearby hospital. 

The victim identified the suspect, but did not know a name, according to the police report. Officers later were able to identify the suspect, but no arrests had been made by Saturday evening.

North Elm and West Oak Streets — Austin Chapman, 23, was arrested on Friday after evading arrest with a vehicle and driving recklessly while in possession of a dangerous drug, according to a police report. 

Chapman was being held at the Denton City Jail in lieu of $8,500 bail. He has been arrested at least twice in Denton County, once in May of this year and once in September 2016, both times on drug charges, according to county jail records. 

2700 block of Colorado Boulevard — A 20-year-old woman told police Friday that her roommate admitted to poisoning and killing her goldfish, according to a police report. 

500 block of Elm Street — Two people broke into a local business  on Friday, stealing a propane tank from a gas barbecue grill, police say. 

Denton Glass Co. was was burglarized by two people, one male and one female, police say. Police reportedly have video of the incident. 


Between 6 a.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, Denton police responded to 165 calls for service, filed 17 reports online, made 13 arrests and filed 17 charges, comprising two felonies and 15 misdemeanors.
