A robber punched the owner of a gas station in the face before fleeing with some cash Friday evening, according to a Denton police report.

Office Shane Kizer, a spokesman for the department, said police received a call about a robbery at the Exxon store in the 4000 block of Interstate 35 at about 5:10 p.m. Friday.

The 62-year-old victim was carrying a bag full of change when the robber assaulted him and grabbed the money, which spilled on the ground, Kizer said. The robber picked up two rolls of quarters and got into the passenger side of a black SUV that left the scene, Kizer said.

He said the victim suffered slight swelling on the side of his face.
