Blotter: Man asked for a cigarette, was 'causing problems'

Police received a call from Hooligans at about 2 p.m. Saturday about a man "causing problems" at the bar and restaurant on Locust Street on the Square. 

The caller said the man asked if he could have a cigarette and was denied. When the caller said no, the man began shouting and left, according to a police report. 

Police arrived and contacted the man, who was arrested on an active warrant with Lewisville Police Department and charged with possession of cocaine.

200 block of Inman Street — At about 2 a.m. Saturday, police received a disturbance complaint about loud music. When police arrived, they were advised that a man with a gun was shooting multiple rounds in the air. 

He was arrested on a charge of carrying a weapon without a license. 

1800 block of South Loop 288 — An asset protection employee at Target called police at about 2 p.m. Saturday to report that someone had stole three items totaling $92.96.

The suspect also placed a price tag belonging to a lower-priced product onto a more expensive product and scanned it. 

The suspect was placed under arrest in double-locked handcuffs and charged with fraudulent destruction, removal or concealment of writing. Police transported the suspect to the Denton City Jail without incident.


Between 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, Denton police handled 131 calls for service, made 10 arrests, and filed three felony charges and 11 misdemeanor charges.
