Confederate monument committee to hold evening meeting for public input
The Confederate monument committee will be opening the door for public input about the statue from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 in the Denton County Commissioners Courtroom, located on the second floor of the Courthouse on the Square.
Commissioners inch closer to repairing courthouse sidewalk
Denton County commissioners are poised to submit a permit application for a $223,000 project to replace the sidewalk around the Courthouse on the Square. They are expected to approve the submission during Tuesday's commissioners meeting.
Commissioners look to add women to monument committee; emergency services to temporarily relocate
Local activists Jennifer Lane and Willie Hudspeth spoke on the lack of women in the group during Tuesday's commissioners meeting. Hudspeth also serves on the committee, and he cited the significant role women played in creating the monument, which was first erected by the Daughters of the Confederacy in 1918.
