More departures at Denton City Hall

Several city department heads announced their retirements in the coming weeks.

Vance Kemler, longtime general manager of solid waste, and Terri Gibbs, director of libraries, are retiring in May. Purchasing Director Elton Brock is retiring this month.

According to memo City Manager Todd Hileman sent to the City Council Friday, the departures trigger additional changes the organization. Hileman said he does not plan to fill Kemler's position. Instead, he will create the post of assistant director that will report to Ken Banks. Banks was named the Director of Utilities during Hileman's initial reorganization of the city's executive leadership in February. In addition, Hileman appointed Karen Smith as the city's interim director of purchasing.

Candidates for a new airport manager are expected to interview next week with an appointment announced soon after, Hileman said.
