Christopher Allen Svatik, son of Dale and Dave Svatik of Copper Canyon, recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.
Svatik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Logistics and Security and an officer's commission in the U. S. armed forces. He also earned a Merchant Marine officer license, qualifying him to serve as an officer on any ship in the U.S. flag merchant marine.
The academy is a federal service school that educates and graduates licensed Merchant Marine officers. In addition to the rigorous academic and physical requirements for admission, applicants must be nominated by their Congressman or Senator.
All academy graduates earn both a Bachelor of Science degree, a merchant marine license and graduate with an obligation to serve the United States. The U.S. Flag Merchant Marine - manned by U.S. merchant mariners - secures the country's commerce in peacetime and delivering warfighters, weapons, and military supplies in times of conflict. Most of "Kings Pointers" will serve as Navy reservists in the Strategic Sealift Officer Program while working aboard U.S. flag vessels. Others on active duty in our nations' armed forces.
Svatik trained for one year as a cadet aboard ocean going vessels, traveling to 18 countries aboard a container ship, an oil tanker, and a cruise ship. He is a graduate of Liberty Christian School in Argyle and was nominated by Congressman Michael Burgess. Svatik has been commissioned in the U.S. Navy in the Student Aviator training program.
