Vandals damaged a granite sculpture by a renown artist and UNT alumnus Jesus Moroles in Ardmore, Oklahoma earlier this week.

"Disc Sun" has been at the Goddard Center since 2008, the same year Moroles earned the National Medal of Arts - the highest honor bestowed by the National Endowment of the Arts. The large sculpture is a granite disc with a hole in the center, sitting on a heavy base.

Surveillance footage showed a group of youths spinning and jerking the top portion of the sculpture, eventually breaking part of the sculpture's base.

Officials from the Goddard Center told Ardmore authorities that repair might not be possible.

Moroles died in a car accident in 2015.

The city of Denton installed a water fountain sculpture by Moroles at city hall in 2016.
