After singing Christmas carols and between Wassail Weekend cider stops at Denton's Holiday Lighting on the Square, local families can take a two-block trip south on Locust Street and stand in Bethlehem.

First United Methodist Church of Denton will host its annual "Evening in Bethlehem" from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, located at 201 S. Locust St.

The free family event is part of the bigger party on the Square each year during the annual lighting. For families who want a little bit of the sacred in their celebration, the event is meant to give a taste of the birthplace of Jesus. The evening includes a live nativity, a petting zoo, mission projects, live music, crafts and food. Attendees can also register for door prizes.

The church library will give free advent calendars to children at the storytelling tent while supplies last.

More than 1,000 visitors stop by the church for the annual event.
