Marjorie Hayes, a University of North Texas theater professor, has created a show titled "The Women Who Compose for Broadway" at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Triad Theatre in New York City.

Hayes was created the show to shine a light on women who have composed for the Broadway stage. Using only the songs of Nell Benjamin, Nancy Ford, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, Brenda Russell, Lucy Simon, Kay Swift, Jeanie Tesori and others, the show will celebrate the artists and the depth and breadth of their music.

Hayes recruited Broadway and regional performers to sing the songs: Brandi Chavonne Massey (Wicked); Rachel  Zatcoff (The Phantom of the Opera);  Peter Kendall Clark (New York City Opera); Marc delaCruz (If/Then) and Madelyn Claire Lego (Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre). Hayes will also perform in the piece.

The piece is partially funded by the UNT Institute for the Advancement for the Arts.
