It will be closed for a year, beginning Monday.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced Friday that it will close the ramp that takes southbound traffic from U.S. Highway 77 (Dallas Drive) up and on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 35E freeway.
Traffic from the on ramp hits the freeway at the point where traffic already must move from three lanes to two. That lane closure is part of another construction project a little farther south, which is rebuilding the interchange at Loop 288 and building a new underpass at Brinker Road.
When those two new bridges are complete, the entire freeway will be widened to three northbound and three southbound lanes (and align with the rest of the newly widened I-35E.)
The widening project is expected to be finished in late 2018, at which point the Dallas Drive on ramp will re-open.
