Recording artist John Paul White — best known as one half of the now-defunct folk duo Civil Wars — will perform the first concert of the Greater Denton Arts Council's 2018 music series.

White will perform on Feb. 1 at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

White is a singer-songwriter who crafts intimate songs about the butterflies and beasts that inhabit our inner lives. He released the critically acclaimed Beulah in 2016 — his first in about a decade. Beulah is gentle folk music with a muted approach that veils an intensity of both emotion and intention. Fans of outlaw rock and indie folk alike can find nourishment in Beulah.

More information about the music series — which will showcase local and touring artists, like White — is to be announced, council officials said. Tickets cost $25, and the concert is suitable for all ages.

Goes good with: Doug Burr; Secret Sisters.
