Art contest set for black history month

Denton Parks & Recreation Department will host a Black History Month art competition in February.

The contest is for children in kindergarten through 12th grade, and the theme is "United We Stand." 

Art will be accepted  and displayed through Sunday,  Feb. 4 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St. Judging will take place  Tuesday through Wednesday, Feb. 13-14. 

The winner will be announced at the annual Black History Month celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the recreation center. The event includes guest speakers, gospel music and a free community health fair.
