Longtime Denton City Council member Dalton Gregory announced Friday that he will not seek re-election in May.
Gregory was first elected in 2009 to serve in District 2. He was re-elected again in 2011 and 2013. In 2014, he switched to run at-large, winning election in 2014 and again in 2016 to serve in Place 5.
An avid cyclist and advocate for better bicycle infrastructure in the city, Gregory is also a retired educator and former principal in Denton ISD.
Gregory said in a prepared statement that he's looking forward to being fully retired.
"I've been serving on Council for nine of the 10 years since I 'retired,'" he wrote. "I have missed too many grandkids' birthday parties and programs. I have also missed several travel opportunities with my wife. I'm ready to see what it feels like to be fully retired."
